The Van Volunteer fire department's mission is to preserve the quality of life for the citizens of Van and it's outlying communities through fire protection, fire prevention, and rescue. The Department responds to an average of 340 calls per year providing structure fire protection, brush fire control, and auto accident response including "Jaws of Life" extrication, among others. From fundraising for the "Fill the Boot" program to giving safety talks to over 500 children per year, the department strives to give all it can to the community. The all-volunteer members are dedicated to insuring the safety of those who call Van home. |

Members of the Van Fire Department work to remove the doors and roof from wrecked cars while students from the Tyler Junior College look on. After the extrication was complete, the students practiced packaging victims from the cars.
